A fair, tan colored head. The aroma is fairly typical of a porter. There is some coffee, chocolate and roastiness to it. The taste is on the same lines of roastiness and chocolate. There is a bit of sweetness to it. A bit of bitterness in the after-taste. Overall, a decent brew! Andrew196 (1091), Katy, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2003 This beer was on nitro, co2 and cask and the brewery! I had the cask of course. Very dark with an astringent coffee aroma. Taste was typical of a porter with some defined smokiness to it. Very well textured as you would expect from a cask beer like this. The flavor is moderately sweet with much of the bitterness being fairly balanced by the malts. A little smoke on the toasty finish. A fine porter from these landlubbers. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2002 This beer has a very sweet flavor to it, and a good thick look, somewhat like the dense head that froths off a Guiness. There isn’t much hop aroma, but there is a fairly strong bitter flavor that is offset by the sweetness of chocolate/coffee grain choices. A very fullfilling and robust beer with a lingering bitter aftertaste. Very nice!
