The flavor is moderately sweet with much of the bitterness being fairly balanced by the malts. A little smoke on the toasty finish. A fine porter from these landlubbers. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 17, 2003 Pours dark with no head. Opaque. Fruity malty aroma. The taste is very coffee-ish with a fair amount of smokey flavors. Bitter, dry finish. Very good brew! boto (1344), Granby, Connecticut, USA

A fair, tan colored head. The aroma is fairly typical of a porter. There is some coffee, chocolate and roastiness to it. The taste is on the same lines of roastiness and chocolate. There is a bit of sweetness to it. A bit of bitterness in the after-taste. Overall, a decent brew! BillKismet (1950), Seattle, Washington, USA

Robust black malt aroma and flavor, though the taste was rather offkey, a combination of sharp cheese and smoke. Deep roast--great for cookouts. NWHopHead99 (58), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2002 This beer has a very sweet flavor to it, and a good thick look, somewhat like the dense head that froths off a Guiness. There isn’t much hop aroma, but there is a fairly strong bitter flavor that is offset by the sweetness of chocolate/coffee grain choices. A very fullfilling and robust beer with a lingering bitter aftertaste. Very nice! BrewDad (2370), Olympia, Washington, USA

A deep black nectar from the gods. This had flavor aroma and a deep rich coffee and dark malts falvor I loved. The beer was cold served in a great pint and the beer had flavor for the next few beers. A Great Porter. The richness was very good and finished the night perfect. riversideAK (2767), Shoreline, Washington, USA
