TheGrandMaster (1617), Auckland, New Zealand Feb 18, 2006 Pint pulled at The Railway in Putney (London), a very clear amber with a thin creamy head. A sour aroma - likely because of lake of quality control at my local JDW - but still some hints of hoppy fruitiness. Smooth in the mouth with a sharp bitter finish. The slight fruity flavours are combined well with the subtle maltiness. imdownthepub (4311), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Dec 27, 2003 Cask Conditioned at The Packhorse Inn, Little Longstone, Derbys. Amber beer with rocky head. A big favourite session beer, sulphery nose, lively slightly sweet malty body and sharp finish. Not at its best for this marking. DruncanVeasey (1913), No. 46, Leicestershire, England Nov 26, 2006 Updated: May 23, 2007Mildly poisonous sulphurous nose in the Burton tradition. Thick shaving foam head. Bready maltiness and gentle hop bitterness. Clear chesnut body. Watery Bitter cordial. Pleasant enough but a little insipid. (Re-rate, 23/05/07) The Railway Hotel, Knickersby. Doggy nose becoming more splendidly vile as you drain the glass. A squeeze of old sock. Poisonously sulphurous. Delicate, creamily malty sessions with best-a-man-can-get lacework and drawn-out fresh-bread afters. maeib (4141), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Jul 11, 2007 Cask conditioned - handpump - Last Plantaganet, Leicester. A copper coloured beer with tight white head, and thick lacing. The aroma has a little sulphur which is also noticeable in the taste, but that’s much nicer with decent hops and a nice hit of malt. Quite mellow with even a bit of mcitrus. Much better than I expected. leaparsons (4180), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Aug 23, 2007 Cask, The Highcross, Leicester. Amber with an off-white head. Aromas are caramel with some nuttiness. Sulphur with hints of citrus. Flavours are sulphur and salts with toffee malts. Refreshing and simple.
