Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in 500ml clear glass bottles @ 5.0%. Occasionally available in cask. Has been brewd at 4.6%
The aptly named, "Double Drop", is brewed using just one type of English Barley - Maris Otter - which was harvested from Fuggle Farm in Norfolk. Uniquely, double dropping brings out the full flavour of this one melt, often described as "the king of brewing barley". The double dropping technique allows only the most vigorous yeast to survive and results in a cleaner fermentation process and a fresher, brighter beer. Double dropping involves "dropping" the beer during fermentation from one vessel to another, normally after 24 hours.

Pours a clear, burnished gold. Lemon, straw aroma. Dry, crisp taste with a slight metallic tang and alcohol coming through.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours an orangey golden with a small white head and a dull sweet smell. The taste is dry malty and a mouthfeel like you’ve been licking cardboard. A week hoppy finish. Not too bad, but not a favourite for sure

Bottle, 25th Dec 08. A glance at the scores on this site had prepared me for this being the worst of the Marstons beers I was to try and so it proved. Amber with frothy white head. The cardboard malt flavour is not helped by the hops that are tangy rather than flavoursome. This is poor even by Marstons’ low standards.

500ml bottle from Morrisons. Orange copper colour with thin white head. Strong caramel and orange aroma with some sulphur. Malts are reasonably juicy with sharp hop finish. One of the best Marston bottled beers, touch of spice too

A Mes rate: bottle from god knows where.
Bright gold with a bubbly white collar. Bacon fat aroma with some low quality green and a hint of spent matches. Fantastic it’s not. Bloody hell. This is awful. All that was lovable about the aroma is even more apparent in the flavour but with the added bonus of some rusty old rake notes. Nasty dusty finish. Quite disgusting.
