Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in 500ml clear glass bottles @ 5.0%. Occasionally available in cask. Has been brewd at 4.6%
The aptly named, "Double Drop", is brewed using just one type of English Barley - Maris Otter - which was harvested from Fuggle Farm in Norfolk. Uniquely, double dropping brings out the full flavour of this one melt, often described as "the king of brewing barley". The double dropping technique allows only the most vigorous yeast to survive and results in a cleaner fermentation process and a fresher, brighter beer. Double dropping involves "dropping" the beer during fermentation from one vessel to another, normally after 24 hours.

500ml bottle. Odd bready yeast aroma, has some oaky vanilla about it, some citrus and spice hops, with a bit of sweet biscuit malt in the background. Pours an effervescent pale amber body with a creamy head and lace. Relatively lean body, soft carbonation. Biscuity malt on the body, followed by a good hit of grassy and grapefruit citrus hop character, with a bit bread and spice towards a lingering bitter dry finish. Different sort of offering, not bad.

Copper coloured lightly sparkling ale. Slightly woody, dry aroma. Dry hoppy taste. It’s quite fresh, clean and easy to drink with a full flavour of hop and malt.

Scotland, Altguish Inn, bottle. Amber with a huge, nice head. The aroma is malty with fresh notes of hops. The flavour is slightly sweet with floral and hoppy notes and a light bitter finish. It’s OK, but quickly forgotten...

Bottle. Copper with a thin off-white head. Nose is slightly oaky, but also a distinct smell of vomit. Mouth is initially some oaky and smoke sweetness, then bitterness in the form of big hops. On the swallow, christ that’s bitter, made my face contort. I’m usually ok with bitter hoppy ales, but this is overhopped and unbalanced. Good nose, pity about the taste.
