Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in 500ml clear glass bottles @ 5.0%. Occasionally available in cask. Has been brewd at 4.6%
The aptly named, "Double Drop", is brewed using just one type of English Barley - Maris Otter - which was harvested from Fuggle Farm in Norfolk. Uniquely, double dropping brings out the full flavour of this one melt, often described as "the king of brewing barley". The double dropping technique allows only the most vigorous yeast to survive and results in a cleaner fermentation process and a fresher, brighter beer. Double dropping involves "dropping" the beer during fermentation from one vessel to another, normally after 24 hours.

Drab and headless. Falling asleep with boredom. Faintly musty hop aroma. Paper-thin stale butterscotch maltiness with the tiniest nibble of hops. Less character than your typical pint of generic fizzzing pub lager. Challenging my powers of description it’s so dull. Wet air, English style.

What an interesting little number this one is! Generally, I find Marstons pretty boring and bland. "Au contraire" I hear you cry, with reference to this little bit of double trouble. I like a very hoppy beer (such as Shep Neame Goldings), but this is almost too much. Bitter bordering on spicy in the way of hops. Very drinkable too and enough carbonation to keep even lager drinkers happy. Looks the part too with a nice light brown tint. Huzzah!

From bottle. Hoppy bitter aroma. Clear in appearance, good carb, thin head. Very crisp taste with a smooth finish.

Bottle: brilliant gold colour with a halo of a white head; bready aroma; taste is well-balanced with a noticeable hoppiness that isn’t overpowering. Prickly in the mouth, but rather watery to finish.

This one is a bit on the malty side of things with a littlle hop bitterness in the aftertaste that lingers. There seems like no aroma here.

Bottle, Copper coloured beer, small white head, hops and malt dominate the aroma. Malts and some caramel in the taste with a flurry of hops at the end.
