Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in 500ml clear glass bottles @ 5.0%. Occasionally available in cask. Has been brewd at 4.6%
The aptly named, "Double Drop", is brewed using just one type of English Barley - Maris Otter - which was harvested from Fuggle Farm in Norfolk. Uniquely, double dropping brings out the full flavour of this one melt, often described as "the king of brewing barley". The double dropping technique allows only the most vigorous yeast to survive and results in a cleaner fermentation process and a fresher, brighter beer. Double dropping involves "dropping" the beer during fermentation from one vessel to another, normally after 24 hours.

Orange body, big white head lasts for some time and leaves a little laceing. Quite a flat constant flavour. Nothing really happens starts out flat and bitter and stays that way.

Dry and bitter, which is what I like but there is not much else in there to make it outstanding or make me race out and get more. Colour looks a bit dull , head and retention was ok and the aroma wasn’t bad either.

Aroma: formaldahyde and something sweet and acid. Appearance: tea amber coloured with a small head. Flavour: prominant hop bitterness with some sweet crystal malt. Palate: lingering hop bitterness with loads of carbonation.

A typical Marston’s product: dry, hoppy, slightly herbal, kind of medicinal, a bit metallic, but, nevertheless, very good refreshing ale.

Almost forgotten ’double dropping’ technique? Try harder to forget, then. It brings no noticeable improvement to another mediocre bottled Marston beer. It’s A squared B cubed - another amazingly boring bottled beer. For the record - amberish, sweetish, maltish, blandish.

Golden with a loose head of foam. Aromas are sweet and yeasty and light struck skunky (as are nearly all the Marston’s bottled beers). Flavours are buttery mild malt with caramel and some spice. Mediocre.

Bottled. Amber gold, thin but lasting white head and moderate tingle of condition. Malt and low spicy hoppiness in the nose, malty in the mouth but uninspiring and bland. Dry and slightly bitter finish with a touch of pepperiness towards the end.

Pours cloudy brownish copper with medium white head. Good retention too. Nice fresh grassy hop aroma with a hint of lemon there too. Smooth mouthfeel, though a little thin. Clean sweet start with a bitter mid and dry bitter finish. I enjoyed this, and didnt find it skunky at all. Maybe others got bad bottles (they are clear).
