Commercial Description:
Bottled - Pasteurised, 500ml.

With it’s pale appearance, strong hoppy taste and higher alcoholic strength Marston’s Old Empire comprises all the genuine characteristics of a true India Pale Ale, which were necessary to last the 3 month long journey from Burton to Bombay.
Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

Only ratings of the bottled version should be entered here. The cask version has a separate entry.

Off white weak head. Amber colour. Aroma is malty with fruity (pear, nuts) and light hoppy notes. Flavor is moderately malty with light nuts tones, ending in a dry wooden finish. Light bodied.

Appearance: clear golden color. Medium head with ivory color, good persistency and some rocky. Aroma: floral hoppyness and malty smells, mainly. Nuts, oranges and grapefruits aromatic reminiscences. Flavor: ephemeral pale-malts in the start. Orangey and dry-hoppy progress with floral reminiscences like chamomile, also, semi-dry fruity notes similar to grapefruits and peel-orange. Dry and lasting final with floral-herbal hoppyness and slightly mentholated. Palate: light to medium body and low carbonation. Remark: Nice dryness and refresh beer, but some mediocre.

Bottle. Deep golden-orange color with a fast shrinking white head. Aroma of citrus, bitter hops, grass, tropical fruit, and bread. The taste is bitter and a bit sharp and one-dimensional, some lighter notes of tropical fruit, citrus, grass, wood, marzipan, and caramel. Light bodied.

Bottle. Pours an amber colour with a white head. Aroma is very thin - some hops. The flavour is also thin - with some hops and malty caramel. Sme butter in the finish with a surprisingly small amount of bitterness. Boring.
