Commercial Description:
Bottled - Pasteurised, 500ml.

With it’s pale appearance, strong hoppy taste and higher alcoholic strength Marston’s Old Empire comprises all the genuine characteristics of a true India Pale Ale, which were necessary to last the 3 month long journey from Burton to Bombay.
Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

Only ratings of the bottled version should be entered here. The cask version has a separate entry.

Well, it is nice to see beer in clear bottles. Very attractive. This beer is the colour of barley sugars! The initial taste was good. Bitter, with a little sweetness. I drank it out of my Klosterbrau Bamberg glass. I could only drink a little of it, as it is too strong to drink much of. Besides, I wanted a Duvel. I had it in the same glass and it was delicious.

Bottle. Poured a light brown colour with no head. The aroma is very floral and the taste is very sweet with a touch of bitterness. Not bad but a typical Marstons beer could be better.

Bottle (500ml). Poured a bright amber with orange highlights and a small frothy white head which didn’t last that well. Aroma was malty, with hops, caramel, some biscuity notes and light marmalade in the back. Taste was decently hoppy, with a pine like bitterness, some orange peel, citrus, and light caramel in the back. Body was medium with soft carbonation and a good finish.
