Commercial Description:
Bottled - Pasteurised, 500ml.

With it’s pale appearance, strong hoppy taste and higher alcoholic strength Marston’s Old Empire comprises all the genuine characteristics of a true India Pale Ale, which were necessary to last the 3 month long journey from Burton to Bombay.
Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

Bottled. Clear, golden with a medium off-white head. Malt, caramel and hops in the aroma, quite low on hops, though. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel and hops. Medium body and a sweet, yet bitter and lasting, hoppy finish. Quite pleasant beer, but it is quite bold to label it as an IPA. It is a bit on the sweet side too, I think. Rating: 6-3-6-3-13-3-1. 060809

Bottle. A clear, golden beer topped by a small off-white head. Bready, caramel aroma with a nice hoppy footprint. A bit low on hops to be an IPA as the brewery says it is. Dry, full-bodied and quenching, with caramel maltyness, a bready touch and some citrusy, resiny bitterness. Slightly cheesy, but just a faint note. Dry, bitter finish with malty flavors blending in. A quenching and easy drinkable beer, but I guess two bottles would be more than enough. 091104

Bottle. Clear amber, creamy white head. Lots of carbonation. Crisp hoppy aroma. Taste, however, is slightly disappoitning. There’s a good hoppy bite, but to me, not enough malts to back it up. Palate is thin. Could have been interesting, now, it’s just another filtered and pasteurized albeit decent IPA.

From bottle. Fresh fruity aroma, sense of a very crisp bitter ale. Clear glowing orange appearance, shame the head looks like someone has spit in my glass. Good carb the look of the beer just makes me want to drink it (forget the spit), so I will... Smooth, sweet honey texture with a malty bitterness. Slight metallic citrus feel on the palate. A good IPA.

Sampled with some friends in Tromsø 10.06.2006.
Golden. Small head. Good hoppy nose. Assorted flavours of fruit and caramel. Gentle bitter finish. A rounded and tasty beer with medium to full body.
