Commercial Description:
Bottled - Pasteurised, 500ml.

With it’s pale appearance, strong hoppy taste and higher alcoholic strength Marston’s Old Empire comprises all the genuine characteristics of a true India Pale Ale, which were necessary to last the 3 month long journey from Burton to Bombay.
Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

bottle from fakta. clear dark yellow, large thick offwhite head. bitter, sawdusty, faint hoppy aroma. slighlty sweet, hoppy, bitterhoppy flavor, malty caramel, pine, indeed much better than aroma. ends bitter and slightly hoppy. In general not hoppy enough to really be an ipa, more like a strong english bitter. still a great beer.

Poured out a lumpy off-white head, a good sized one but I looked away and it had vanished leaving only surface cover with a decent life span. Light amberish and really clear, maybe a bit thin? The aroma is fresh with strong grass, an odd weak fruity smell and lots of hops, weak malts and some metallic stuff. The taste is heavy on the hops with some dark orange flavour, lots of grass and some other stuff I cannot nail down. I like! I like! Tons of tasty hop flavour. Highly carbonated, closes on medium bodied, leaves endless bitterness. Goes down in a hurry just like your mom. I’ve been hooked on English bitters the last while so I need more.

Mmmmmm….I see here its listed as an ESB even thought the bottle say’s IPA and the reviews seem to be describing an IPA, but what ever. Copper body with a strange looking cap I can’t describe why it’s strange but it is. Skunky hop presence along with a smoky quality in the aroma but it’s not smoke I’m not sure what it is. Nice hop bite in the flavour but nothing over the top lemon, grass, light malt character beer is somewhat tasty. Very drinkable brew nothing bad to say about it.

A fairly average beer overall. Pour is bright golden amberish with a thin head. Aroma of grass, hops, slight fruitiness. Taste is bitter and grassy. Not much else here.

Bottle. Tastes like a well hopped lager. Bitter but one dimensional aftertaste.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours amer with a tiny head. Smells of vegitables and a little grass. Bitter tasting, I agree with the hop strength stated abow, however not in a very good way...
