Commercial Description:
Bottled - Pasteurised, 500ml.

With it’s pale appearance, strong hoppy taste and higher alcoholic strength Marston’s Old Empire comprises all the genuine characteristics of a true India Pale Ale, which were necessary to last the 3 month long journey from Burton to Bombay.
Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

Only ratings of the bottled version should be entered here. The cask version has a separate entry.

Really hoppy fantastic beer, i could get it on tap at the rising sun in scholar green when they have it as a guest but i decided to also sample the bottle version aswell, excellent beer. Hoppy aroma and hoppy taste, the hop flavour fills your mouth pleasantly, i like hoppy malty beers. Fantastic

Bottled. This looks great! gold in colour, head is firm and white and lasts well. Nose is clean and fresh, bursts with immense hoppy aromas. WOW!!! that’s some mouthful, big and full flavoured, refreshing & satisfying, finish cuts a bit short, but hey! that’s not a big fault is it? Fantastic stuff, V.W. Kelso £1.79/4 for £6...may not last tho’ knowing that company..PS. can’t understand the low overall percentile score, try it anyway.

on a hot summer afternoon one might be tempted to order a cold lager ... if he hasn’t got the chance to get hold of an Old Empire IPA that is ... IPA’s are perfect thirst quenchers to start with and this one tops it with a overwhelming taste of fresh hops and a marvelous bitter aftertaste .... a great brew in an impressive bottle ...

Gold coloured with a lively head that soon goes. Malty and bitter with a lovely lingering slightly sweet aftertaste. I expected more body in an I.PA and was surprised to see it in a clear bottle.Up to the usual high standards that we expect from this brewery with that tangy taste that most of their beers have. Very pleasant but I have got to say it wasn't quite as good as for some reason I had expected.

Fantastic IPA, an archetype for other IPAs! Orange amber, full of lively hop aroma and flavour, truly excellent.

Sharp and citric hop aroma and flavours, rich smooth malt, good colour, discernable alcohol. Moreish - carbonation fine for my taste, but agree heartily with HarryFlashman that this is a great beer to go with a curry. Recommended.
