Draught. Bitter & Twisted Beer Festival. Pours a really nice golden brown with a slightly reddish tint. Small tan head that fell away pretty quickly. Really nice caramel and toffee aromas. Some nut and toasted aromas also. Flavours are quite malty with plenty of toffee. Dome bitterness on the finiish but nicely balance. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. Nice beer.

Wonderful appereance, with a deep brown colour and a huge bubbly head. Malty aroma. The flavour is malty too, sweet, with traces of liquorice and caramel. Quite bitter finish. A bit unbalanced, not very complex, but anyway nice: the best Marston beer I’ve drunk so far.

Bottle. Dark ruby with a medium, reasonably lengthy beige head. Roasted malts, caramel, toffee and red berries on the nose with a hint of alcohol. Toffee again in the flavours with boiled sweets, a dark fruitiness and strong notes of roasted malt. Thickish mouthfeel with warming and tingling sensations in the throat and on the tongue.

Sometimes the circumstance under which a beer is consumed can elevate one’s appreciation of it. We had just arrived the cabin in Arrowtown and I drank this while the room warmed up from -2 degrees, and I must say that there could not have been a more perfect beer to help pass the time and chase the cold away. Deep copper with golden highlights. Aromas of burnt sugar and rye bread, and prunes. Delicious flavours of burnt toffee, sherry, and prunes. Full bodied, sweet but not cloying.

Dark brown body with a light brown head. Sweet aroma of dark fruits and toffee. Taste is a little syrupy, dark fruits with a little chocolate, fairly smooth with a lingering finish.

50 cl bottle at Silja Line. Big light brown foam that lasts over a deap amber ale. Small hop aroma. SWEET taste with small or possibly no bitterness. The sweetness lastsfor everand then there is another foul taste also present. It’s suprising that a recipie could last for 500 years when the product is like this. I don’t know if I got a bottle direct from the brewery without proper storing but totaly unbalanced.

Pours deep nutty brown with a small, creamy, off-white head. Sweet malty aroma, some toffee, good roasted malts, some dried fruits and a touch of chocolate. Medium carbonation, fine mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit roasted, some viniousness, lots of prunes and raisins. Medium sweetness, good dark roasted caramel. Fine beer.
