500ml bottle from Cask & Glass, Tonbridge, the best offy in East Kent. BBE Dec 07. Rich ruby colour with thin beige head. Not sure what I expected from this. Syrupy malt with some peppery hop aroma. Rich fruit. However in the mouth you can still tell that it is pasteurised due to that awful candy sugar, boiled sweet flavour. Raisiny malt finish is good, nice fruit and a decent hop presence. Fine beer for the winter, the alcohol doesn’t make it harsh, so it does show some adeptness. Like GarethYoung I thought that it was a bit empty in the palate.

[Bottle from BeersofEurope] Big malty aroma, raisins, orange peel, spicey, alcohol. well bodied but feels a little vacuous and the palate is marred by some tinny notes.

Aroma is rich and fruity quite spicey and some yeasty candy sugar. Taste is similarly complx maybe not as well blended as some of the style but defo a good effort and the best iv had from marstons.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a clear, dark, reddish brown with a light brown head. Aroma of sweetish, roasted malt and caramel. Fairly full and solid body with plenty of roasted malt and caramel notes. Not much bitterness to be detected. Not exactly refined but a fine winter warmer. 071006

500ml bottle from the local supermarket. Pours well and smells good - like treacle. Has a biscuity character and the tan coloured head lasts quite well. It’s very sweet and the aftertaste is mostly sugar and booze. Not a bad drop but not great either. A good thing to drink on the walk back from the railway station on a cold night after being out on the town.

Bottle. The colour of treacle with a thick brown head, which settles but lasts. A sweet toffee nose, and a warm malty flavour makes this a beer to sip slowly.
