evilsoc (190), Wales Sep 18, 2008 Im amazed this looks as dark as it does. Lightly roasted/heavily toasted malts. thin feel to it. A suggestion of coffee in there somewhere with saltiness and black malt. Hops hard to detect. More like a mild. Far too pasteurised and in danger of being bland.
tomthompson89 (1245), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 8, 2009 dark brown almost black color, not much head. nose is burnt malts some coffee, and kinda inky??? flavor is roasted malts some coffee and not much else. kinda thin and boring. french tickler (555), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Jan 2, 2009 1st rating of 2009! Very dark brown poor with a thick frothy head that quickly dissipated. Aromas of chocolate, hints of coffee, sea salt?... Very very faint fruity aromas... Medium body, creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Added licorice flavors. Overall a nice smooth dry stout to start the year off on the right foot. Here’s to many more ratings in 2009! Cheers! pootzboy (910), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada Dec 27, 2008 half liter bottle. Says this is a stout suitable for quaffing with oyster, so ic contains no oyster or oyster shell. Seems pointless when there are plently of dry stouts around to enjoy with oysters.
Pours a deep dark ebony with small ruby highlights when held to light. Decent 2 finger mocha cap does not last long and weakly laces the glass.
Very faint nose for a stout, some coffee a bit of charred husk and light grassiness.
Mild easy to take stout with a toasty body and good balance between malts and hop. Dry but not aggressively bitter.
Definitely a good swig with affinity to wash down shellfish. I suspect the toasty character and what little body this stout has, comes from the toasted flaked wheat they bulk up the body with, without that this would be more like a porter in body. JK54B (501), Finland Dec 27, 2008 A bottle from local K-Market. Pale brown head. Roasted malty taste. Dark black colour. Hints of coffee and chocolate in the taste. Soft taste. wilderthanyou (339), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Dec 21, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a quickly diminishing tan head. The aroma is lightly fruity, with notes of sea water, strange. The flavour has weak game for a stout, sort of fruity, really not roastiness to be had in this beverage. Mouth feel is watery. It is kind of refreshing though, it gets point for drinkability.
