Lightly oily-hazy amber body, only a touch of creamy head....spicy-bready nose, lots of fresh dark grains and dry grassy hops, a bit of caramel....nicely balanced sweet-dry character on the tongue, Vienna malts give it a proper German texture, somewhat "rustic" and full, bready but not doughy....lightly bitter to finish. Having a hard time describing this well, maybe as it was one of the last samples I had? Anyway, solid effort. jcwattsrugger (5440), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 23, 2006 This beer pours a macintosh apple red, and leaves a white lace for a head that disappears quickly. The aroma seems off a bit, it has a fruit (grape), sour smell, followed by a bit of smokiness. It starts on the palate with a tart bite, followed by hop bitter flavor and finished with some smokey, tabacco essence, then all of a sudden caramel malt presence can be detected. Not bad for the style, a little weak on the body, I was expecting a little bit more.
