How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Near black body topped by a small brown head
In long: Basic light roastiness on the nose. Body is extra-thin, almost watery. Medium roastiness level. Molasses cake flavour with distant coffee notes. Very soft carbonation. Not very tasty. Very very simple. Entry level “black” beer. I can’t believe I got served this and an excellent Weizen Bock at the same pub and on the same day. Holy crap, that brewpub is about as erratic as my girlfriend’s driving. Who happens to be my designated driver. Which is great, because of her driving I need a beer very bad when we get somewhere. beerbuzzmontreal (2921), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

pours a black with a big offwhite head, excellent lacing. Small unimpressive aromas of chocolate and roast malt Dissapointing watery mouth feel. Unremarkable flavors, some roasty molasses and chocolate. Slightly bitter finish. drinkable but far from transcendent. Haven’t had it in a while, but I remember it being a decent brew-ski. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 25, 2005 Sampled onn draught at the brewpub 5/20/2005 with The Motor City Beerman, ClarkVV. Near-black thick brown, somewhere between molasses and grade B maple syrup, good lasting creamy tan head...pleasant full chocolate-anise roasty nose...sweeter chocolate in the body, roastiness disappearing quickly, a bit of tart grapes and a little coffee bitterness to finish. On nitro, but I suspect not too much the worse for it. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | May 25, 2005 Nitrogen dispensed at the brewpub, 5/20/2005 with Muzzlehatch. Dark brown, milk chocolate colored body, hints of garnet on the edges, with an off-white/beige head that is fully lasting. Low lacing. Moderately hazy. Aroma of graham crackers, light roasted malts, chocolate. Flavor is mostly roast, some gritty chocolate flavors, hints of nuts and maybe some vanilla on the finish. A bit of oiliness for a mouthfeel, some acidity, but then mostly water à la nitro. Very weak body, though an above average strength of aroma for being on nitrogen.
