Draft at ABC 11th Capital City Brew fest. Poured a dark brown in color with a very small tan head. Aroma of oats, wheat, light sweet chocolate and cloves. Tastes of fruity esters, with chocolate roast, wheat, light chocolate, and some mild spices. Body was a little on the thin side. I got 2 samples of this during the fest. It certainly gets better as it warms. It wasn’t really a highlight during the fest, but It certainly was memorable.

On tap at Marzoni’s. Banana and spice, light chocolate. Carbonic gaseousness. Light banana flavor with mild sweet malt. Herbal hops, mild neutral fruit. Dark brown reddish, light haze. Head was off-white creamy lacing head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Starts with malty sweetness, fairly rich for 4.5%, with some molasses and mild chocolate. Characteristic Dunkelweizen profile, with banana and clove and dark brown sugar. Finished nutty with medium sweetness and some sugary tang. Not much hops bitterness. Definitely gets better as it warms up.

Draft at Marzoni’s. Dark muddy brown colored body, minimal head. Strange nose of soggy bread with oatmeal raisin bread and wheat notes, close to zero hop presence. Pasty and medium to light body, chalky at times, very little chocolate flavor overall, maybe just a little bit of toasted malt, some more soggy/stale bread notes, zero bitterness, and only a faint presence of clove/banana esters. Overall a bit transparent and disappointing.
