On tap at the Marzoni’s in Allison Park. Candy aroma, very attractive bouquet. Smells somewhat like cotton candy. Color is just a little darker than the ubiquitous pale yellow lager. More like the color of a Yuengling Traditional. No head. Earthly hay like flavors. A little course when it comes to bitterness. Has more impersonality than my taste buds care for. Reminds me of great lakes dort. Mild carbonation. The earthy hay like palate continues thru the finish along with the medium high refined dort bitterness, hangs for a while. I’ve tasted more behaved dorts but this is on this bitter side of the style.

Horrid. That’s how I describe both this beer and my last experience at Marzoni’s. What I ordered was a Dortmunder. What I saw looked splendid: clear and sharp amber colored body with a small-bubbled, densely packed white head. What I smelled was a diacetyl bomb. What I tasted was a greasy, oily, biting buttery mess. What I asked the bartender was if he was aware that this beer is unfit for human comsumption. What I got was brushed off and charged $3.50 for a pint that went right down the sink drain. Hey, if you’re going to insist that this beer is ok to serve, then I’m going to rate it.

Light hoppy aroma, a bit of skunkiness/bandaid, with mild malts. Hazy amber with foamy white lacing head. Medium-light watery body with medium carbonation. Starts light sweet with no acidity and light bitterness. Smooth taste. Light malts, mild hops. Finish is medium sweet with mild acidity. Clean aftertaste. A great session beer.
