Aroma keeps switching off between a nice lactic tartness, some oak, and some smoky hints. Tastes minerally with some nice tartness. Some smoky hints emerge as the beer warms. Earthy grassy finish. This reminds me of a cross between koduolo and gose. Good stuff! ¾ (5009), Boulder, Colorado, USA

Weird, spicy flavor of sprite soda, ginger ale, soggy bread, wheat germ, and then a really strange note of lactic acid (actually guessed at this before reading the description) - it’s mainly on the back and in the finish, a sharp stomach acid bite that seems out of place, but almost resembles a berliner weisse... but then everything in this beer seems out of place... I don’t get any smoke, but I do get some pureed apples and sour pear mush, and some fruity yeast esters, overall it’s really unique and strange but it’s difficult to understand. puzzl (2660), New York, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | May 22, 2008 Growler from my pal Cheapdark. A very interesting beer. Each sip, each aroma yields something different. Not to say its very complex -- it isn’t -- but there is a still a lot of variety and evolution as this is drank. All the major ingredients are noticable -- light lactic, smoke, wheat -- along with some lemon and light yeast. I like this. Quite close to a berlinner weisse, really the only extra thing is smoke. I bet this would be great if it got the proper barrel treatment. Thanks, Dennis! Nate (2569), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 2, 2008 On tap in Duncansville. Medium smoky lemonpeel and honey nose, mild wheat. Lactic sourness and a bit of mild lemon sweetness. Hazy light amber, with cloudy yeasty swirls, with thin lacing white head. Light watery body with medium carbonation. Easy drinking with some carbonic acidity. Starts with tart lemon peel and light to medium smoked malt. Tangy fades away to a yeasty wheat and chalky bitterness. Lactic sourness lasts a while, but a fairly clean after with mild bitterness. Mild smoky after notes, too. This one will need to grow on you, but this is one of the most exciting beers I’ve had since probably Gotlandsdricke. Very cool beer, and kudos to Bill and Scott for pushing the envelope in west-central PA. kramer (2524), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA

I’m really glad that somebody added this to the site after I had it, cause I didn’t write any description down and it wasn’t listed on the menu, so I had no idea what I was drinking at the time. My closest guess to the style at the time was a Smoked. Pours a hazy yellow straw body with a minimal head. Pale crackery maltiness with a minimal smokiness. The flavor is a little thin up front with a little smokiness and a slight twang on the finish. Pretty limp mouthfeel with soft minimal carbonation. Overall, as a Smoked beer I thought that this was pretty weak. I wish that I would have know the whole story behind this one while I was drinking it. Hey Marzoni’s! Get this info onto a menu so people know what they’re drinking!! cheapdark (2049), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA

Got a nice big sample while filling a growler of it for puzzl. Cloudy lightish beige or brown like a hazey Long Island iced tea. Beatiful big head! Taste is of old farm house or barn with background hints of old sour wet hay. At times I think I smell a little old wet hay and manure mix in there and this is not meant to be derrogatory in any way. I must admit, I never tasted horse or goat manure but had my face rubbed in it a few times and this stuff has all the positve attributes of said matter. At times I think there are hints of smoked goat cheese in there. This brew is unique and a positive experience on all accounts. A really good tasting session brew. Light and airy, beautiful and fun. Nice finish, like a confederate gentleman greeeting a southern colonial bell. Lovely, simply lovely! Not a single hint of bitterness! Nice floral aroma with light malt and yeast in the background. Pour was a nice medium gold with a 2 finger white head. Taste was very drinkable and refreshing. Light malt and smoke in the front that gives way to a lactic sourness in the aftertaste. As I had more of this the smoke gets stronger. A definate plus! Little carbonation, but the flavor stands on its own. Some yeast and lemon come out as it warms. Great beer! Beerman6686 (1309), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma is if sweet malt and sourdough bread. Flavor is fairly sour at the beginning with a bready flavor in the finish with no sign of hops. Interesting session beer.
