dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 31, 2007 Draft at Altoona location. Golden color. Spicy malt nose. Coriander, perfumy something. Interesting spicy/malty flavor. Tasty. I’d have it again. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 28, 2007 Updated: Dec 31, 2007On tap at the rte 8 location in PGH. Slight spice aroma. Barely cloudy and just barely darker than a ubiquitous pale yellow american lager. Comes on like an american wheat. Good tingly carbonation. Fun and interesting. Straw, hay and farm field flavors are prevalent. Has some mild bitterness that builds on the back of the palate during the session. Finish is short but that mild bitterness hangs for a while after the session is complete. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Aug 21, 2006 Draught at the brewery. Almost clear appearance, with a pale yellow body. Lightly spiced fruit cocktail and pineapple and coriander nose. Light flavors up front, then more spicy and fruity, spritzy, light on the tongue, but refreshing. Most of the flavor is noticed in the finish, with a medium dryness level. Interesting attempt at saison, but not a proper example. lilannie (383), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 21, 2006 Aroma: spiciness, soapy, some hay, and grass
Appearance: slightly clear yellow, small white head, some lacing
Flavor: grains, spices-- -->particularly coriander, and wheat
Palate: little soapy, little thin, nice spicy aftertaste Phatz (225), Paradise, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 1, 2006 I must confess that Saisons are not my favorite style but I have had enough to know what I am looking for and I found this one to be decent and about average. It does take a very good Saison to impress me and this one really did not. It is not bad at all just not exceptional with in the style.
Appearance: Clear gold with lots of carbonation.
Smell: Typical spicy farmhouse aroma.
Taste: Sweet and tart with spicy pepper flavor.
Mouthfeel: Nice and creamy.
Drinkability: If you like the style I guess it’ll suit. I liked it better than Rogue Festivale but not quite as much as Yards Saison, to give it a relative perspective.
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!
Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 12, 2005 Floral, fruity aroma reminiscent of jasmine tea. Mild spicy hop note. Golden medium amber hazy, but not dull, with thin off-white lacing head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation, clean. Starts floral and a bit spicy. Nice notes of jasmine throughout. Needs a bit more malt body but has really good spicy hoppy character that is typical in a good saison. A little watery in the finish, but otherwise the jasmine and hoppy after are great. Nice saison.
