kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 24, 2009 On tap, Duncansville location. Pours a ruby tinged amber with a thin ring of beige head. Sweet rich malty nose with a touch of smokiness. Nice sweet dark malt flavor with a nice light smoky hint, on the thinner side, but I wouldn’t say watery. Mouthfeel is a little sweet with some clinginess on the finish. Light fizzy carbonation. Pretty good, but it could use a little more body. Snoop59 (69), Penn Run, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 10, 2009 Brought back as a Brewer’s Choice. Growler from brewery in Duncansville. Pours a clear copper-brown with ruby highlights and a thin off-white head that leaves minimal lacing on the glass. Nice malty aroma, caramel and dark fruits. Flavor is moderately sweet, some caramel, slight toastiness, and a hint of bourbon. Nicely balanced. Medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet yet warming. Really nice. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Mar 10, 2008 Half-pint @ the brewery. Moderately cloudy plum purple/brown colored body. Rich maple, dried fruit (plum, pineapple, raisins), some brown sugar and dough yeast notes, and a little bit of sweet bourbon or whiskey character as well. Texture is frothy and chewy, viscous but not thick, and it tastes on the sweeter side, but not too far... maple pancake syrup (and bacon? mmm bacon), candied scotch, wood, nuts, dried fruit, etc. A pretty good beer, the chewy and frothy texture is the biggest draw here. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Mar 1, 2008 Draft at Allison Park. Aroma of sugary malts. Pours brown with an off white head. Flavor of dark caramel, maple, and light cocoa powder. Moderate amount of residual sweetness. Could use a bit more peaty traits to move this to the next level. This was very easy to drink, and rather simple (in a good way). argo0 (6842), Washington DC, USA Feb 18, 2008 (Duncansville, 6.3%, called Scotch Ale) Clear blood red body with beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, molasses, light cherry. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, chocolate, brown sugar, some cherry, light smoke/burnt. Light carbonation, medium body. Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 18, 2007 Pretty run of the mill. Marzoni’s certainly has better to offer than thius. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2007 Updated: Aug 27, 2007Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a dark ruby chestnut color with a tan head. The aroma was dry, bitter, roasty and had a hint of sulfur. The flavor was malty, roasty, bitter and dry with a light sulfur element that grew as the beer warmed. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Feb 14, 2007 Bottle via Bill. The beer pours to a dark brown body with a creamy light tan head. The aroma is malty with interesting sweet sugars. Light sweet chocolate and a dash of peat. The flavor is really malty and has nougat and chocolate in it. Really superbly balanced. Toasty malts. The palate is silken and moderately full bodied. Nice light tartness and caramel texture.
