5 oz sample at the brewery. Dark brown colored body with red light at the bottom and top of the glass, topped by a dark brown, tiny-bubbled foamy nitro head. Light coffee and medium roast in the nose, with a similar flavor up front that turns more dry and pasty over the middle, with an almost tart/parched dry beachwood and char note into the finish. Very roasty and full flavored, but the nitro body is poorly done, and it falls apart thin and loose on the tongue rather quickly. They told me with straight faces that they sell growlers and growlers of this nitro stout. Ugh. Overall, it would benefit from either more heft, more chewiness, CO2, or all of the above. It’s a decent enough recipe but they’ve got to work on presentation.

Deep brown pour with aroma of chocoff, prunes. Tastes chocoffy, with some molasses at the finish. Very smooth mouthfeel.

Roasted bitter coffee, milk chocolate, and light hops. Sweet and malty aroma. Dark brown-black with off-tan head. Medium watery body with smooth carbonation. Starts with light sweetness and medium acidity. Finish is sour bitter, roasty, with nice notes of chocolate and bitter roast coffee. Nicely hopped. After is medium bitter. A nice dry stout.

On tap @ Duncansville. Pours a dark brown, almost black body with a wispy brown head. Nice roasty nose with a good bit of coffee. Great roasty and coffee flavor, with a burnt malt finish. A little bit watery in the mouthfeel with moderate soft carbonation.

On tap at the Marzoni’s in Allison Park, nice place. This beer’s appearance is simply delectable and attractive. Thick rolling rich black opaque used shovel head oil. Has chocolate mousse for a head but the head fades rapidly. Good roasty stout aroma. Very stoutlike initial taste. It comes across like you’ve filtered your beer thru the wet coals of an old wood campfire. I would think this was more like a sweet stout if I didn’t look at the style. Friendly and flat for the most part. Perhaps that is why it is listed as dry stout, very little if any carbonation. Overall a decent brew that deserves accolades. Creamy and dark. Has some medium lingering bitterness on the back of the throat like meat that has been burnt on the grill. Overall, a very good example of a dark beer. Not quite as good as Troegs Oatmeal but right up there with other good dry stouts like Carlow Ohara.

Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a black color with a dark brown head. The aroma was gritty coffee and roasty malts The flavor was very roasty, smoky and very bitter. There is a coffee undertone. The finish is long, bitter and smoky. The mouthfeel is rather thin.
