opaque brown, dry chocolate aroma, lots of chocolate flavor, touch of malt bitterness in the finish

solid brown, lasting fine tan head, rich chocolate and roasted flavor, a nice coffee character, good balancing hop flavor and a lasting bitter finish, a bit too much bitterness from the roasted creates a touch of astrengency in the finish

Draught sample at the brewpub. Quite solid, dark brown, near-opaque with very little head....lightly roasty nose, somewhat grainy and dry, touched by coffee-chocolate seductions late....pleasantly robust body, moderately sweet and solidly roasty, touches of vanilla....a bit too milky (though not sour) and quite grainy, almost worty at the finish.....a decent attempt but seemingly just a bit underattenuated and unfinished.

On tap at brewery: Deep brown hue with average fizzy tan head and good lace. The aroma hints of almonds, cashews, wood, wet hay fields, grainy, mocha and an off nose of band-aid. The taste is hoppier than expected, sloid bitter front with a buttery and mocha undertone. Just a hint of coffee and wood on the finish. The mouthfeel is chalky and somewhat dry. Other than the off aroma, I liked this beer. It among the sweeter porters I've had, not very smoky or crisp.

Draft pint at the brewpub; the nice poofy head settled relatively quickly. Tight roasty aroma. Well rounded roasty flavors, too ... bit of smoke and a bit of sweet-bitter clash of the titans going on. Very good and best I had today. (#2807, 4/21/2007)

Black, a touch of red around the edges. Thin but sturdy brown head. Smooth flavors of chocolate and coffee, with a mildly dry finish. A few tiny hints of cherry or apple. Hickory Hops, 2007.

Deep, deep rootber brown, lacy head. Nutty, slightly fruity aroma. Abv prominent. Edgy coffee bittering initially, but then you get into the groove. Chocolate and patent character. Medium body. Medium-long coffee finish with some creaminess.
