Prometheus (97), Fayetteville, North Carolina, USA Oct 3, 2009 Orangish in color. Not much head at all.
Fairly malty color.
Malt, caramel flavor.
Not bad.
Just put it on tap yesterday. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Oct 5, 2008 Clear amber pour. Toasted malt and caramel on the nose. Fruity flavor with a nice balance of hops. This was a nice surprise. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2007 BJCP Training: Categories 3&4. Clear dark golden body with a medium white head. Light toasted malt aroma. Sweet malty flavor with some light toastiness. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Sep 23, 2007 Thanks to William for bringing a growler of this back for the BJCP training session. Clear light orange, head comes up quick, but has zero retention. Light toasty malt aroma. Toasty flavors, a very faint roast note, and a malty, dry finish. Not rich. Not exciting, but not bad. 19641948 (492), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Sep 16, 2006 From notes 10/14/04:
This Oktoberfest pours a clean clear burnt orange color with a foamy light tan head. Lacing was sparse and random. The beer gave a delicious nutty caramel scent that just whetted the appetite. Nice. Maltiness is ever-present in this scent, that’s for sure. Flavors have a solid malt backbone. More caramel and nut to accompany the graininess. Not quite "chewy" in the mouthfeel, but the aftertaste mimics a big beer. Caramel sweetness abounds and lingers. Hallertau hops give some spice to it. Drinkable as can be. A worthy seasonal offering from the folks in Fayetteville.
Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 23, 2005 Sampled at Asheville Brewgrass 2005. Copper, with a beige head. Nice toffee and caramel aroma. Tas is malty smooth, with he same notes of caramel and toffee, but also a hint of cardboard. Gently sweet finish. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Oct 24, 2004 Huge, blossoming white head--imagine an albino mushroom cloud!--stands over a dark orange brew. Intensely aromatic from far-off: principally citrus, flowers and honey. Perfectly fits the Bavarian wheat style as I understand it, but where does the "winter" part come in? The brewery specializes in wheats, or should I say "weisbier specialitaten", as it says on the label, but no further information is given about this "winter wheat" business, or what the heck a "Schneewalter" is.
Thirst-quenching, delicious, substantial, and sweet. Quite good, but I can’t find what ought to set it apart from other Bavarian wheats.
gthank (73), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 19, 2002 Aracauna pretty much nails this one. Nothing exciting, too bland for an Oktoberfest. I did find the hops a hair too strong for an Oktoberfest, and the head dissipated entirely too quickly.
