JDUB (170), Beautiful Pasadena, California, USA Nov 17, 2007 hefeweizen appearance - hazy, golden hue with frothy head. Grass scented earth hops with a mild, unassuming initial taste and cola-like after taste - perhaps the mate’s influence?
Lagunitasfan (152), San Diego, California, USA Dec 27, 2008 22 oz bottle Bevmo Burbank. Hazy orange amber with tiny white head that dissapated to a slick. Smell is of oranges and spice. Can barely smell the mate up front. Huge mate taste though. Mate seems to cover most everything else. Bit of lemon hidden in there. The PCVs from South America will enjoy the flavor. shigadeyo (1507), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Nov 19, 2008 Ale brewed with Yerba Maté...

12/12/2007: Mateveza is a cloudy golden orange color with a thin, crackly white head. The aroma and flavor are floral, herbal, and very earthy (saplings and dried grass). Some light malt and fruit are also present, but are a bit overwhelmed by herbal, earthy, and twig-like. There is a decent level of bitterness that starts up near the finish. The finish is floral soap and perfume with some Pine-Sol like flavors. The body of this beer is medium. This is an interesting beer, but somewhat disconnected. It really isn’t my cup of Maté!

22 fl. oz. bottle from 5000. Thanks! Rating #98 for this beer...
pintbypint (897), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Oct 16, 2008 650ml brown bottle. Bright yellow in colour, sizeable fluffy and rocky white head on top. Aroma is citrusy, trace of pear and peppery spice. Earthy malt base, fruity notes. Herbal, drying finish with some lingering grass and lemon/grapefruit notes. Light bodied, high carbonation. danielcurtis81 (349), San Diego, California, USA Oct 15, 2008 Getting my notebook online. Bottle. Pours a fairly clear golden hue. Taste not good at all, nothing is wrong with organic but this taste a little to earthy. Couldn’t make it all the way through. zappafan99 (352), Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA Aug 10, 2008 Taste: 8/8 Bottle. Looks: Very heady pour. Cloudy yellow body. Aroma: Candy sugar, a little green/herbal. Hops spice. Taste: Bitter/astringent, dry and lacking much body. A little spice and a metallic tinge. Medicinal, like powdered asprin.
