Jahills (151), Cambridge (Hobart), Australia Aug 4, 2004 quite sweet, thin but expected from this style of beer. not the worst ive tried. A better choice for this style would be Old Bastard from St Ives in Tas (unfortunately missing from ratebeer).
gam (679), brisbane, Australia Jul 13, 2008 Tan frothy head on a dark red/brown colour nearly opaque, good carbonation.Aroma caramel, chocolate, malt.Flavour rich chocolate wheaty cooked taste, maltiness, very plesant bitter with the fermentation and cooking length, holds it,s flavour very well.Finish malt chocolate slight bitter good stuff. madquacker (545), Canberra ACT, Australia May 22, 2008 I find these black beers abit overrated on Ratebeer. Sure was nice and another example of caramel and roasted coffee and chocolate, but they all start tasting the same after awhile. Still it was nice. Ungstrup (11930), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 18, 2008 Bottled. A dark red beer with a thick brown head. The aroma is sweet malty combined with notes of caramel and nuts - and so is the flavor. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. presario (2523), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Apr 6, 2008 Bottle. Dark reddish brown. Moderate light brown head. Dark malt doughy aroma. Full rich malty mouth feel. Lasting dark malt flavour. Chocolate meringue oatmeal cookie in a glass. Poperinge (353), Cowtown, Alberta, Canada Apr 4, 2008 Page 312 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and thank you James. This is a decent dunkle and definitely better the oxidized Celebrator I am drinking while rating this beer. This beer is a dark, malty beer with roasted barley overtones and a great mf. Only 159 of MJ’s 500 Classic Brews to go.
