Linc (736), Sydney, Australia May 26, 2007 Looks like a lot of people think this is crap and here I am casting the deciding (10th) vote. Heck, I expected very little; I hate the word mild! But it has a decent phenolic nose with a balanced banana note and I guess a little clove. Bearing in mind that this is supposed to be a dumbed down version of Redback, they have acheived it fairly well, it has the characteristics of a Redback, with more water added. In fact that is no doubt how it is made... An OK beer.
mkel07 (66), Brisbane, Australia Oct 24, 2008 I found this to be reasonably flavoursome for a milder beer. I haven’t tried the original version in a long time but will go back and sample it. Looks good in the glass with a frothy white head and sparkling yellow colour. ALLOVATE (1127), Perth, Australia Jan 5, 2006 Couldn’t believe that I hadn’t yet tried this one and after the bottle was finally empty I really wished I had left it on the shelf. Calling it watered down would be letting it off lightly. To it’s credit it looked good in the glass, almost like every other Aussie macro-swill. Clear, dull medium gold body topped off with a well retained, dense and creamy compact white head that left some legs. Aroma seemed muddled between scorched sugar cubes and bubblegum with a little morning toast underneath. Thin and watery in the mouth, and sharp and acridly bitter without actually having a flavour to attest to. Feint banana and swarf bin flavour lives through in the aftertaste with a swallow like that from a glass tonic water. I really couldn’t see the ’Mild Wheat Beer’ characteristics in this to meet the label description so I’d have to rank this alongside CUB’s finest. Not beer at all. (345mL, Redback Mild, BB 22/07/06) DuffMan (2194), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jul 5, 2005 My label says "Redback Mild", but I think its the same beer. Essentially a less flavourful version of the original, but good as far as light beers are concerned (I’d prefer a "watered-down" version of a good wheat beer over a "watered-down" version of a piss pale lager any day... provided there is sufficient reason to be drinking light beer in the first place) Nemo (100), Fremantle, Australia Jun 24, 2004 It if like Redback, but wanting something with less alcohol content this is for you. Just a watered down version of the Redback.
