SilkTork (3959), Rochester, Kent, England Feb 9, 2007 Bright bottled at Dover Beer Fest 2007. A good roasty ale with a healthy but not overbearing smack of hops. A delicious and flavoursome beer of considerable character and interest. Difficult to categorise - has elements of a stout or mild, yet with plenty of hops. Yummy. MesandSim (4723), Highgate, Greater London, England Aug 17, 2007 A Mes rate:
Cask handpull at GBBF. Excellent chestnut colour with a slight head. Coffee and dark malt aroma with some delicate hops in the background. Awesome dark malty flavour with plenty of fruit and a beautiful bitter coffee finish. Superb mouthfeel. Certainly the best of this style that I have had. downender (1785), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Aug 2, 2007 Updated: Aug 19, 2007Cask-conditioned at the Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol 1/8/07. Dark red with a strong tan head that left a lot of lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, spice and red fruits. The flavour had plenty of tangy fruit, roasted malt and a hoppy finish. Excellent. harrisoni (5605), Ashford, Kent, England Feb 3, 2007 Cask gravity at White Cliffs BF 2007. Ruby colour with lasting beige head. Nice choccy aroma. Bit of curry powder, well spice anyway. Roasted flavours in mouth. I really like the roasted grain flavour and texture. Dry finish. Quirky, but like most other people at the table, I liked it. Doppelganger (1261), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Feb 9, 2007 Gravity, Dover BF. Coppery red with a persistant layer of fine tan. Rusty mineral aroma, coarse bread and a touch of marmalade. Much more hop flavor than the aroma would indicate. A nice fresh warm grapefruit, some warm malt, a fine dry finish. Clean, delicate palate.
