Commercial Description:
Sunbeam Summer Ale is our English Style Summer Ale, a more recent arrival on the English brewing scene. It has a malt profile similar to an American Wheat, but slightly richer due to the malt varieties common to British breweries. Ample hops balance the wheat and barley malts, floral Kent and Styrian Goldings, citrusy Ahtanums and potent Magnums. The malt plays to the tune of Pale Ale, White Wheat, Honey and Cara-Stan. Our fruity house ale yeast brings the alchol snap and a dry-ish finish. 30 IBUs 5.7% ABV

This is the dry-hopped version available at peek-a-brew. Pours hazy golden / orange with a small tight head. The aroma has some fruity sweetness (from yeast?), lightly toasted malt and hops that has lots of smoothness to them. Medium body with a crisp grainy feel and some subdued sharp carbonation. The flavor begins with the aroma traits, but has some piny hops and light earthiness. The finish has spicy hops and melon-like traits. A good crisp refreshing summer beer.

Tasted 7/20/09. Sample #3 from the brewpub. Filtered with a dark golden hue. White ring of head. Bright citrus nose. Good aroma! Medium bodied with a bright body and lightly roasted malts. Soapy hops. Very tasty and easy session beer. Tingling astringency with a touch vanilla sweetness in the middle. Sample #4 was a dry hopped version using Mt. Hood. This version had a fresh spicy nose. Good use of spicy soapy citrus hops. Really added a dimension of bitterness. Both solid but I think I actually preferred the regular version.
