Commercial Description:
India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

(can from bhensonb, thanks!) Pours a lightly hazed gold with a thick white head that retains for a very long time. Huge aroma of citrus and tropical fruits that smells like a fruit salad. Pineapple, orange, grapefruit, tangerine, and hints of pine all combine here for a great smell. Does get a bit of a vegetal edge to it with some warming, so I can’t give it a 9. Taste follows with a lot of juicy hops, orange, pineapple, and a lingering grapefruit peel bitterness. A bit of caramel makes its presence known, along with some biscuit on the finish to provide some balance, but this is mainly all about the hops. Mouthfeel is very smooth and full. Wow this is good, highly sessionable, and it rivals Furious in my opinion. This is definitely one of my new favorite IPAs. Thanks again Bill!

Can from Hi-Time. Man, the can movement is on fire. This is another excellent product from the good folks in Maui. Beautiful golden body with big head. Hoppy nose but not too much. Refreshing and cool texture with plenty of big wave hops gushing around. Really nice.

Can. Awesome. 090109 date on the bottom. Fresh enough. Medium-light gold, strong creamy whipped head. Softer aromas of lime leaf, orange and dried leaves. Creamy head leads to a creamy body, sweet cotton candy base, green Cascade-y hops and some bubblegum.

Pours orange/golden with an orange head. The aroma is doughy, caramel, citrus, and mildly piney. The flavor is cookie dough, caramel, and citrus fruit. Full bodied and tasty, but a little on the sweet side for an IPA for me.

nice lacy white head, clear gold/orange color, aroma is straw and mild hop veg, flavor is a tad sweet, mild citrus hop and moderate bitters, pretty well balanced really, it just lacks any sort of explosive hop aroma/flavor, but a very drinkable and refreshing ale

Can... Poured clear golden/orange with a white head. Floral aroma. Mellow and balanced. Leafy, citrus hops and fruit characters. Cracker malts and a sweet, earthy, hop finish.
