fiver29 (276), Strongsville, Ohio, USA May 26, 2008 Can pours a hazy amber color with off white head. Has a wonderful hop smell that makes me think palm tree pine. Very floral. Has a medium mouthfeel and is well carbonated. Tastes like a great IPA with pine, grapefruit, and a smooth sweetness on the back side. This is overall a very solid brew.
BrotherGrendel (47), San Diego, California, USA Aug 17, 2008 Solidly dense orange-amber hue, one finger of soapy white bubbles sustains, moderate lacing. Smell is big caramel/sweet bread malts battling with equally large citrus hops, hints of pine resin and light fruit, delicious! Taste is mostly pine and citrus (orange/lemon) hops initially, nice balance of sweetbread and caramel malts soon after, tones of toffee, brown sugar, floral, and grapefruit, finishes more sweet than bitter. Palate is medium-bodied, thick resiny texture, moderate to high carbonation level. Overall, this is a solid single IPA with a very admirable malt/hop balance, the flavor tends to slip away a bit too quickly, very sessionable DYCSoccer17 (2009), Davis, California, USA Aug 13, 2008 12 ounce can in a single blind tasting with 21st Amendment IPA. Both purchased at BevMo in Vacaville, CA. Piney, herbal hoppy nose with some light musty maltiness present. A little ethanol is present retronasally. Not overly aromatic stuff. Mildly hazy honey-colored body with a medium off-white head and good lacing. Starts a little spicy before it shows off its strong, chewy, creamy malt backbone. Some sweet toffee and caramel dominates with some light roastiness. Finishes with a very mild citrus and floral hop flavor that is a bit sweet. Not overly ethanolic. Definitely heavy on the malts. Not a hop head’s delight, but this is the kind of IPA that I find enjoyable. mabel (1583), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 9, 2008 [1426-20080531] Can. Strong orange pulpy pip hops aroma. Hazy, dark orange amber body with a long-lasting foamy off-white head. Buttery smooth wood orange pulp flavour. Medium body is smooth with a bitter background. "Fresh green twig," nice.
(3T @ Mondial; Montreal, QC) beerbuzzmontreal (2697), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 5, 2008 Cloudy amber pour with a thick offwhite head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Nice aroma of leafy, floral hops with tropical fruits and mint. Good flavor of mint, tropical fruits and leafy, floral hops, there’s also a decent malt backbone in there. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. Pretty good. acrdz (4248), Pennsylvania, USA Aug 5, 2008 12oz can shared by kmweaver. Cloudy soft orange colored body. Aroma is creamed oranges and soft mandarin slices... flavor is sharp and hoppy, but somewhat dirty and harsh, lacks any sort of smoothness, with some crusty, harsh malt and noticeable lack of fruity hop flavors. Okay overall, not great, and the tea note picked up after a short time is not very well received.
