Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - November to January.
Taking its name from the title given to Sudbury by Dickens in Pickwick Papers, this is a winter ale of deep red and brown hue. It has a well balanced fruit and malt plus a slight sweetness on the palate ending in a pleasant roast bitterness.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Very dark brown. Faint sweet aroma. Taste is rounded and malty with some fruity pear sourness. Not much else. A bit ordinary, to tell the truth.

Cask @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm
Initially loads of diacetyl (butterscotch) but that magically disappears after a while. Roasted with a touch of chocolate, coffee and cinnamon. Well balanced and easily downed. This, to me, is a mild and not an old ale.

Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Dark brown with a creamy light brown head. Loads of diacetyl in aroma with notes of white chocolate and cocoa. Buttery flavour, hints of coffee beans and vanilla. Medium bitter finish of coffee and cocoa with a disturbing diacetyl note. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.

Sampled cask conditioned at Akkurat, Stockholm.
Coffee colour. Very roasty and quite dry. Rounded and medium bodied. Salty with a bit of coffee and a really bitter finish. Definitely wintery.
