Commercial Description:
Black and velvety smooth, Max Black is a dark lager with a rich chocolate-like malt character. A delicate Mt. Hood hops finish balances this medium-to-full-bodied beer. IBU 40 ABV 5.2% O.G. 13.8º Plato

Tap, downtown Atlanta. Brown-black-red. Roasty, coffee, smoke, tobacco. Good smells, just, weak. Off-white head. Moderately sweet, lightly acidic flavor becomes a lightly sweet, lightly bitter finish. Medium body, watery texture, moderate carbonation. The bottom line is: lots of pipe tobacco in the flavor. Weird.

On tap at their Buford, Ga. location. Pours a dark ruby red fading to black with a slight mocha colored head. Has some fresh lake water accents to the aroma with a little bit of chocolate for good measure. Detect some brief chocolate notes in the flavor with some fruitiness and all around decent bitterness to keep it interesting. Slightly thin mouthfeel, Strong finish.

More like a dark amber in color than light black. That’s the nicest thing I can say about this stuff. Well, the pour was a bit creamy. This is a beer with an identity crisis. Light hop aroma. The taste is sweet with a burnt caramel thing going on. Slightly astringent and dry. Tastes a bit like plastic.

This beer looks and smells quite appealing. However, upon tasting it is quite bland and watery. There is hardly any body to it at all and it just sits there limp on the tongue.

I was surprised to find this in a bar in my town. A true-to-style schwarzbier, clean but at no point was watery. Enough chocolate and roastiness to stay interesting, but not extraordinary. Nice mouthfeel.

Dark and true to type. It is billed as a dark for those who don’t like dark. I wish they sold it on it’s merits as it is a very drinlkable brew.

Dark bronze with ruby and no head or lacing. The aroma is sweet with malts & a nice hoppy bite. Odd to find this was a lager. The flavor is well balanced and smooth with a nutty/caramel aftertaste. not bad for a lager!

Draft at Max Lager's in downtown Atlanta. This beer had a small sized light brown head with fine-medium sized bubbles that quickly and completely dissipated. The body was uncarbonated, opague and a black hue. The nose was mild coffee with a mild coffee taste to it. The mouthfeel was very smooth, thin and watery. This was a light bodied beer with fair lacing. Not a beer that I would recommend as it lacked flavor.
