| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 25, 2004 Draft: Light, bronze-edged ebony. Creamy, faded chocolate head. Buttery, roasted malt aroma with notes of mineral and caramel. Notably leafy with a hint of dark fruits, toasted walnut, earth, salt, and licorice. Soft, round, creamy mouthfeel. Starts with flowing buttered caramel notes amid a light hins of charcoal and roasted malt. Chalk notes are countered by the mixed berres. Caramel richness curbs the cocoa. Finishes rather weak with leafy, fruity hops and a touch of leather. Less than memorable, as it is nearly devoid of an oily body and toastiness, imparted from the oatmeal, along with the mocha, and needs more malt heft and alcohol to be among the greats. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA

It lacked the huge fruitiness and other characteristics of the bigger Imperial stouts, but I don’t think that is what it was going for. It came off as a kicked up Dry Irish Stout, and it was very good at doing that. It was dark, but not quite opaque, but it had this dense, generous dark tan head that was just gorgeous. A good amount of roast and chocolate was there. This is quite the tasty stout. biermonk (259), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2004 A good offering from the guys at Max Lagers. Poured opaque witha nice tan head flavor was predominently a chocolate coffee. Lots of roasted character. Suttree (2740), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Smoky, toasty aroma. Full and rich, it has a burnt toast, coffee, and some dark chocolate flavors, too. Well made and impressive. Sampled at the Great Atlanta Pub Crawl, 2004. wunderbier (1267), Tampere, Finland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2004 Sample glass, RateBeer Southeastern Gathering. Dark chocolate, oats, espresso, molasses aroma. Slightly chalky. Deep black body with a nice and lasting tan head. A little thin on the flavor (think Bert Grant’s). Sweet with a nice roasty bitterness. Not as much hops as I would like. Medium body, watery/creamy texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: a pretty good offering from a typically underwhelming brewer. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

Very thick bodied. Flavor was chocolate, coffee, mocha, and oatmeal. Yet another great beer on the Atlanta pub crawl! MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA
