Pours a thick oily robust black with a dense tan head. Has a rich chocolatey mocha aroma with some hop presence. Body starts sweet with a dry coffee bean finish and caramel malt throughout. Good balance, but could be a bit thicker. Overall a very nice beer though, and one that IMO is more than 6% abv ;)

Dark with tan head and spotty lacing. The aroma is fruity and roasty with some mocha qualities but not too strong. The finish is very astringent, too much black malts.

Dark brown with amber highlights and produces a small tan head and some lace. The aroma hints of mocha, coffee, caramel, aromatic hops, and a touch of date. The taste starts twangy and displays a touch of oatmeal qualities. A lactic sourness is noticeable midway has is a buttered biscuit note. The finish has a touch od smoke, coffee, and lingering bitterness. The mouthfeel is sticky but still feels thin. This is a damn good stout surprisingly, but also isn't really an imperial either. Enjoy it for what it is and for Max Lagers it's above average.

I thought this was relatively weak and unbalanced. Some nice roasted chocolate malt flavors though. In its defense though, this is the best beer that they make.

Surprisingly good. Black and totally opaque. Small tan head. Smoky, toasty aroma. Full and rich, it has a burnt toast, coffee, and some dark chocolate flavors, too. Well made and impressive. Sampled at the Great Atlanta Pub Crawl, 2004.

This was on the weaker end of the Imperial Stout style. It lacked the huge fruitiness and other characteristics of the bigger Imperial stouts, but I don’t think that is what it was going for. It came off as a kicked up Dry Irish Stout, and it was very good at doing that. It was dark, but not quite opaque, but it had this dense, generous dark tan head that was just gorgeous. A good amount of roast and chocolate was there. This is quite the tasty stout.

Draft: Light, bronze-edged ebony. Creamy, faded chocolate head. Buttery, roasted malt aroma with notes of mineral and caramel. Notably leafy with a hint of dark fruits, toasted walnut, earth, salt, and licorice. Soft, round, creamy mouthfeel. Starts with flowing buttered caramel notes amid a light hins of charcoal and roasted malt. Chalk notes are countered by the mixed berres. Caramel richness curbs the cocoa. Finishes rather weak with leafy, fruity hops and a touch of leather. Less than memorable, as it is nearly devoid of an oily body and toastiness, imparted from the oatmeal, along with the mocha, and needs more malt heft and alcohol to be among the greats.
