Surprisingly good. Black and totally opaque. Small tan head. Smoky, toasty aroma. Full and rich, it has a burnt toast, coffee, and some dark chocolate flavors, too. Well made and impressive. Sampled at the Great Atlanta Pub Crawl, 2004.

Pours a thick oily robust black with a dense tan head. Has a rich chocolatey mocha aroma with some hop presence. Body starts sweet with a dry coffee bean finish and caramel malt throughout. Good balance, but could be a bit thicker. Overall a very nice beer though, and one that IMO is more than 6% abv ;)

I was quite impressed with Max Lagers. This one sloooowly poured a dark black with a tan head. Very thick bodied. Flavor was chocolate, coffee, mocha, and oatmeal. Yet another great beer on the Atlanta pub crawl!

Pours black with a tan head. This is very full bodied but still seems thin in the flavor. Somewhat oily mouthfeel. Nicely hopped. A nice beer.

This was on the weaker end of the Imperial Stout style. It lacked the huge fruitiness and other characteristics of the bigger Imperial stouts, but I don’t think that is what it was going for. It came off as a kicked up Dry Irish Stout, and it was very good at doing that. It was dark, but not quite opaque, but it had this dense, generous dark tan head that was just gorgeous. A good amount of roast and chocolate was there. This is quite the tasty stout.

black, tan head, rich chocolate aroma, rich malt flavor, some oily sweetness, bitter malt finish, lots of potential but too small a sample

black, big tan head, light roasted malt aroma, very creamy body, too much roasted bitterness that covers up anything else that may be going on

sweet chocolate aroma with a touch of roasted, body a bit too attenuaed and on the thin side, slight roasted bitterness in the finish, very drinkable but lacking that something special this year, the bus?
