Commercial Description:
As the British Empire expanded, English brewers added extra hops to keep beer fresh for increasingly long sea voyages. The beer on board the Mayflower shared this trait. Mayflower IPA puts a descendant’s twist on this style, with a powerful hop profile balanced by plenty of malt character. We use the freshest hops from the Pacific Northwest to give this beer its distinct, piney flavor and delightful, fruity aroma.

12oz bottle. Below average IPA though still quite drinkable. Not as hop heavy as I would have liked being more on the side of a pale ale.

Bottled. Cheesy, rusty, generic cheap IPA aroma. Stale and bland. The kind of aroma that gives IPAs a bad name. Flavor is mostly just bitter with too much crystal. About as generic as IPA gets.

This pours a deep golden color with a nice head. Aroma is of hops, some floral, and a slight citrus. Taste is of hops, malts, and a little pine. Has a bitter aftertaste. Not a too bad IPA, but really nothing special.

On cask at Nerax’s event at Novare. Pours a golden hazy straw color with a distinct piney hop nose. Flavors are very clean, crisp, and typical over hopped delicious west coast style IPA. There’s a solid malt backbone at work here, but it’s all about the hops here. This was a nice little cask.

On tap at Bukowskis Tavern, Cambridge MA, September 2009. Nice clear amber colour. Quite soft IPA but pleasantly drinkable. Decent hops. Malt backing a bit lacking leading to a somewhat light mouthfeel.

courtesy of 6daybottomocean Pours copper, off white head. Aroma of nice floral hops, plenty of good citrus/grapefruit. Flavor, similar to aroma, lots of goodness and hops. Thin palate with some malts followed by bitter hops and citrus. Medium carbonation. Finish is same, smooth, light on bitter side with hints of lingering citrus.

[bottle] Toasty caramel aroma with a nice dose of pine hops and a touch of grapefruit. Light chestnut under a clingy, white sheet. Potent pine and grapefruit hops flavour that is slightly salty, in front of toffee. Not complex, but very well done. Good amount of malt sweetness and subtle bitterness hold up the blast of hops flavour. Medium body, moderate carbonation, slightly bitter grapefruit finish.
