Commercial Description:
One hundred years after the Mayflower landed at Plymouth, a new beer style emerged in England. Taking its cues from “Three Threads”, a bartender’s blend of three distinct ales, Porter became the beer of choice for 18th-century Londoners. Mayflower Porter embraces this history. This complex brew is smooth and full-flavored with notes of roasted coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate that will warm the palate all year long.

Dark cola pour, fizzy offwhite head. Aroma is chocolate, chalk, very bready with some sweet dark sugar. Flavor is very roasty and dry with some sweet molasses. mouthfeel is nice, not too thin. A bit of char on the finish, rather nice.

Pours a dark black. Minimal head, light tan in color. No lacing. Aroma strong of roasted malts and coffee. Chocolaty flavor with bitter coffee finish. Definitely needs to be served on the warm side. Silky smooth mouth feel,. Carbonation stings a bit. Overall, not a bad beer. Mouth feel a little odd and throws it off.

Tap at the Mayflower campsite BCTC 09. Pours a nice deep amber-brown with a good sticky head. Aroma is fresh nutty, toast, good fresh chocolate malt, light roast, some grassy and herbal hops and a bready yeast/maltiness. Flavor is sharp bittersweet chocolate, but fresh malts all around and nicely hopped- malt forward and clean finish. Pretty solid porter.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a foamy tan head. Nose is grapes, wood and mild coffee. Medium light with spritzy carb. Taste is weak instant coffee and club soda. Roasty finish with ash.

On tap at Cambridge Common, Cambridge MA, October 2009. Dark and roasty. Good burnt notes on the nose. A little phenol/iodine. Dry and a little dusty on the palate. Roast malt and powdery chocolate. Eminently drinkable stuff.

This brew has a near pure black color with a dark caramel colored and thick head. Aroma is of malts, chocolate, toffee, and some coffee. Taste is of malts, dark chocolate, and some coffee. Has a pretty smooth coffee aftertaste. Overall, this is a pretty good porter. Good job Mayflower.

Scored this 12oz bottle via trade. Pours a opaque, sorta thick black that had a nice mahogany red around the edges with a creamy, slighty off white head. Aroma is fairly average, sweet, caramel, dough, maybe a bit of vanilla. Flavor is nice, starts with all those toasted malts, nuts, dark chocolate, coffee and ends with some sweetness, milk chocolate, caramel, brown sugar. Finish has a lingering toastiness that is pleasant and warming.

This is a pretty decent effort. Nose of light coffee, chocolate and maple syrup. Nice balanced brew restrained in a good way, with nice intermingling or roasted malt and just enough hop bite. Soft. A nice surprise, thanks holdwine.
