MesandSim (4723), Highgate, Greater London, England Mar 14, 2008 A Mes rate: Gravicask at Sussex Beer Festival.
You know on those all too rare occasions when a cask has been on just the right amount of time and it’s in perfect condition and just all round hitting the sweet spot? This was one of those moments. Excellent black and tan appearance. Creamy vanilla malt aroma with some dusty dark chocolate. Awesome smoky and earthy malt flavour with beautiful chocolate and a dusty dark bitterness at the edges. Almost chalky dark chocolate finish with a delicate balancing bitterness. Superb legnth, creeps around the sides of the palate and just keeps on going. Possibly just a little thin in the mouth but a damn fine drop over all. Jukkabro (2493), Tampere, Finland Mar 27, 2007 (Cask at Ship & Mitre, Liverpool) Near black colored, slight red hints. Medium sized beige head. Strongly roasted coffee aroma with nice sweetness, some berries also come up. Flavor is also sweet with caramelly roastiness and some berries, aftertaste dries nicely with some chocolate. I like this.
