Pwn3d (869), Manhattan, New York, USA Jun 22, 2009 Bottle. Pour is walnut brown with tanned head. nose is semi light biscuity malt. Taste is malt, sugars and some yeast. Nice bright mouthfeel. Sessionable and good alc content. Nice! robforbes (985), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jun 17, 2009 pours a semi-clear brown with a small beige head, lively carbonation, and great lacing.
smell of some spice, and some malt.
taste is light, spice, malt, and brown sugar, end is a little spicy and dry. Savvy1982 (111), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Jun 17, 2009 Bottle. Pours a great reddish-brown with a pale tan head that quickly reduces, with no real lacing to speak of. Nose is full of toffee, raisin, nuts, wine gums, taffy, grapes. Nose is obviously Belgian and very sweet, with just a hint of sour cherry that slowly becomes more assertive as the beer warms. A hint of funk is present, but only just. Palate is more red fruit, jellies, candies, a sour turn is present, like a sour cherry Jolly Rancher, that keeps this beer interesting. Soft plums and caramel on the finish. hobbersr (275), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Jun 17, 2009 Pours a mahogany colour with a large short lived head. Aroma has a lot going on. Belgian yeast up front with toffee, sour cherries, candies, and bread. Tastes is sweet initially, then gets slightly sour and a little bitter. Tastes like chewy candies, figs, plums, spice, cherries, and toffee. Palate is decent, good not great. I like this beer because of the complexity, but the sweetness is a little much for this beer to be great. ChainGangGuy (2313), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 14, 2009 11 ounce goblet - $9.75 at Taco Mac in Buford, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours an opaque, dark brown body with a thin wisp of white froth on top.
Smell: Aroma replete with plenty of fruitiness and lightly wafting alcohol and notes of spice, dark bread, dark candi sugar, and maybe even some syrup as well.
Taste: Dark brown breadiness sweetened with dark candi sugar and a firm caramel flavor. Fruity additions of black cherry cola, figs, and red currants. Earthy, herbal hops with a medium-low bitterness. Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. Light warming touches of alcohol. Renewed tastes of sweet breadiness, now with a touch of maple prior to the warming, semi-dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A reasonably pleasant, enjoyable ale, and, though the alcohol isn’t entirely hidden, it isn’t ever glaring, making for a relatively easy-drinking brew. Paired well with the rockin’ mid-90’s tunes playing at Taco Mac. JanEric (60), Meppel, Netherlands Jun 4, 2009 Bottle, 33 cl. Pours out coffee-brown coloured, with a creamy dense head, statying for a long while. In the nose some caramel and raosted candy. Slightly carbonated. Tastes a bit bitter, sweet, with an average finish. A good tasty dark beer. vtafro (212), , New Jersey, USA Jun 4, 2009 Bottle. Was very unimpressed with this beer, considering the other offering from this brewer are very good to great.
