Sweet malty aroma. Sweet roasted malt flavor hit you right away, also had some dark fruit to it along w/some raisins & figs, but the malt was most prevalent. A little sweeter than most scotch ales, really seemed like a Belgian & a Scotch Ale combined. Different, but pretty good. Muggus69 (506), Sydney, Australia

Beer info: Bottled in green 750ml bottle 8.0%abv BB 26 10 2010.
Sampling Notes:
Served chilled in chalice.
Dense tightly-packed persistant tan head atop at ruby-highlighted mahogany body.
Spicy nose, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, brown sugar, liquorice, vinous dark fruits, yeasty funk. Nothing that really screams beer, but intriguing.
Moderate creamy carbonation, velvet-like body, dense palate overall. Some alcohol warmth present, as is some drying spice and bitterness.
Excellent complexity on the body, reminsant of a Christmas cake/pudding at time; brown sugar, nutmeg, glazed cherry, cinnamon, dried apricot, liquorice, sultana, vanilla. Finish is quite boozy, slight note of sherry, lingering woody dryness and bitter note.
Different sort of dark Belgian strong ale. Certainly a spicy offering, drier as far as malt and ester character goes. Maybe I should have kept this for Christmas, the flavour really seems to fit that mold! Blom (390), Odense, Denmark

The flavour is malty and sugarish, spiced and fruity. A bit too much of everything and a little too little of interest - that pretty much sums this beer up. Shared a 750mL with a buddy. The aroma was decent, but both the appearance and taste were thin and watery. I have enjoyed better Scotch ales and Belgian fusions. For a fine example of the later, grab the Dobbelin IPA by this same brewery = excellent! Russo (595), Campinas, Brazil

Flavor is the harmonization of everything in this beer, some red fruits, with a sweet touch and a quite spicy. Mouth feel take a long time to go and I really need to drink more each time the glass came back from my mouth! :) joshwilfong (776), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2008 dark reddish brown with solid white head. Nose of candi sugar and dark malts. Flavor of some toasty crystal malt and possibly some chocolate with a strong estery Belgian yeast flavor and a dry finish.. hops absent from this one. A very flavorful beer and very well crafted and an innovative idea. I wouldn’t say the flavors necessarily mesh perfectly, but the idea and perfect production make it a complex and worthwhile brew. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 17, 2008 0.75 l bottle courtesy of and shared with ogivlado - huge thanks! Poured a daaaaark and murky lovely red body with a medium-big thieck off white head. Malty nose, weak notes of dried fruit. The taste is sweetish, dominated by a somewhat bublegummy tasty maltiness. Dry hopiness leaving some aromatic notes. Dried fruit emerges from the maltiness and maybe some strawberry too. Overall very nice.
