Egon (392), Gothenburg, Sweden Dec 29, 2007 Bottle. Dark red brown with big lasting head. Fruit and some roasted malt. Carbonation. Slight bitter finish. Not much alcohol in taste despite being quite strong. TaxiDriver (908), Stadland, Germany Dec 26, 2007 Bottle. Roasted malt, light alcoholic.
Big creamy brown head, long lasting. Black body. Rather sweet start, not bitter, the aftertaste is only a little bit alcoholic.
On the palate the beer is rather medium, creamy and dry with a little bit more carbonation. A really nice beer!
Habanero (610), Tranbjerg, Denmark Dec 26, 2007 Pours with a brown body and a huge light brown head. Malty nose with yeast and notes of prunes. Sweet toffee flavour with burned malt and raisins. Medium bodied. A weak bitternes in the finish. Erdinger2003 (127), Ames, Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours a beautiful big head that falls into a small persestant head and leaves a strong lacing in it’s path. The color is dark and burgandy-purple, very hard to see through. Smell is sour with dark fruit tones. You can smell the Belgian very nicely. The taste is not overpowering, it’s delightful. It feels like silk in my mouth and leaves a wonderful aftertaste. I really enjoyed this beer. JasonG (700), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Dec 15, 2007 750ml bottle - pours a medium ruby red, ruddy brown color with medium sized light tan head. Aroma has slightly toasted caramel, notes of raisens, dates, vanilla, cream, toasted marshmellow, pear, slight roasty notes. Flavor has fair amount of chewy malts, light caramel, raisens, tart cherries, hint of grains of paradise. Finish is mildly sweet. beerbastard (94), Mesa, Arizona, USA Dec 13, 2007 Dark Fruit nose with some alcohol. Not what I think of when tasting a Scotch Ale. No smokeyness. This might sound different, but I think of tequila when drinking. Clean finish. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Dec 12, 2007 Not what I expected at all. Pours a cloudy dark brown color with a creamy foamy tan head. Smells of sour wheat and tastes like wheat, sugar, and raisens. The beer is somewhat watery and soft and I would have never guessed that this was 8.5. Alcohol is well hidden and refreshing. This is a scotch ale? dmac (1418), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Dec 11, 2007 750 ml bottle. Pours a murky muddy brown with visible carbonation running up the side of my Duvel tulip and an above average size frothy bubbly off white head. Yeasty aroma with notes of bread and raisin. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a dry bread like feel on the palate but the alcohol is hidden nicely. Flavor of yeast, bread and slight vinous notes on the back of the throat. Not really sure why this is a Scotch Ale other then becaue it’s called Mc, actually as a Scotch Ale it should be Mac Chouffe!!
