thomat (666), Göteborg, Sweden Aug 4, 2007 Brown with a small- off-white head. Notes of caramel and malt, slightly roasted. Hoppy, yeasty with a hint of friut. Full body with a sweet finish. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Aug 1, 2007 Bottled. Beer is clear medium-dark brown with a small, off-white, frothy, mostly diminishing but lasting head.
The aroma is malty with moderate/heavy notes of toasted grain, moderate caramely toasted bread crust, shortbread; Hoppy with moderate notes of resin/pine, honeysuckle; Yeasty with a light doughy note of basement; Moderate miscellaneous note of spicy, woody alcohol, syrupy stone fruit.
The flavor is moderate/heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter with a long, warm, moderately sweet, trace bitter finish.
The body is full, the texture is watery/velvety and the carbonation is lively.
Lots of layers and rich warmth. frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jul 31, 2007 Pours with a huge yet quick, sand-colored head over a rubied-mahogany body loaded with yeasty granules of joy. A lingering metallic presence detracts from an otherwise pleasant aroma. Tart and wooden with stone fruits and moldy cheese. Diverse flavor moves from tart yeasts to lightly sweetened earthiness to cherries and some dark fruit. Palate can’t seem to make up its mind with a thin viscosity that seems watery yet finishes dry. As the last yeasts pour in, the mouthfeel becomes full and almost creamy (gaining a point) and I can imagine I’m drinking the draught version. Esters sneak in and become rather robust late. In all, I very much enjoyed this and wish I can remember where I bought it .

EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Jul 30, 2007 Bottle. Sweet fruity nose is very exotic - first impression was of pomegranate and mango. Ruby-mahogany pour, very dark and nearly opaque with strong visible carbonation and a large, creamy, rocky tanned head that creeps up the sides of the glass. Taste, too, is exotic, flavors mentioned before but with peaty malt, wood, and light figs entering in. Crisp and playful mouthfeel, full body. Not really dry at all, though the woodiness almost serves the purpose. Earthy, spicy undertones, blending extremely well with the sugar. No real hop presence. Touch of warmth from the alcohol. Class and memorably unique! tenghave (402), Taastrup, Denmark Jul 29, 2007 Brun let uklar øl.
Duft: let karamel, let bærndt, varm og humlet.
Smag: samme.
Dark brown ruby appearance with a 2 finger tan head. Nutty aroma with hints of floral and grassy hops. Nutty with caramel hints like a brown, but dried fruit with esters of grape and apple like a good belgian make up the taste. Finish is more belgian than anything as it has the same esters with a bready/yeasty hint thrown in. Good carbonation and a smooth medium-full body. A very nice beer, indeed! I would liken it to a good brown and a well-balanced dubbel mixed together. DJMonarch (6050), Northwich, Cheshire, England Jul 24, 2007 On draught at the New Oxford, Salford 16/03/2007
Malt aroma. Dark coloured smooth on the palate and fruity with some alcohol present. Some dryness in a warming lasting malt finish. DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Jul 20, 2007 33 cl bottle, "Best Before End 2007." Rating #MCC! (Get it?) Served at about 45°F in a tulip glass. Deep brown with ruby red streaks in the light. Thin, tenacious head. Smell of unwashed sugars, some light fruits. Rich, sugary Belgian dark ale more than Scotch, I think. Caramel malts start to pick up, and a bit of smoke or phenol. Richly carbonated, helping to bring out more of the alcohol. Raisins and dried fruits after that, just a suggestion of cinnamon and crystallized ginger. Mild bitterness really can’t stand up to this Belgian sweetness, but this is well sweetened, not cloying. A great, contemplative brew that, for once, I pulled from my cellar at just the right time.
