after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Jun 10, 2007 750. Pours deep opaque ebony with deep amber highlights. Towering thick sudsy moussy tan head--this is a gorgeous beer, a centerfold without a doubt. Funky, sweatsocky, sour cherry-ish on the nose. Big forward malt sweetness/brown-sugary notes all over the palate. Medium attack with subdued carb and nearly-watery body. Mid-palate’s not as subtle or as complex as ya might ordinarily hope for from Achouffe. I’d drink the hell out of this beer if I were standing in a bar that served it and not too many other things--it’d make for an amazingly good session. And an amazingly comatose cab ride afterward. But even though this is local and reasonably priced, I’m not sure I need to seek it out again in a bottle. Solid and then some, but unspectacular. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA May 24, 2007 750ml bottle poured dark brown with a big creamy tan head that stays well and laces good. Aromas of caramel malts, and lots of earthy dough notes as well. Flavor is caramel upfront with some good fruity notes in behind that some peat and lots of scotch. Palate is smooth rather well carbonated and fairly creamy on the palate. Not bad. xetnauq (13), USA May 8, 2007 Very smooth, creamy, as others have said earthy beer. Taste starts out well, but somewhat unsatisfying and undistinguished after drinking. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA May 5, 2007 Spicey caramel aroma, sour, earthy, strawberries and cream. Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. Fruity, caramel, hints or sour fruit, very smooth. Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden May 2, 2007 Aroma: mm, soy, sourish... yummy, earthy, malt... rotting strawberries. Vaguely acrid... caramel, some hops.
Appearance: very deep red-brown,...beige head. Pretty nice... apetizing.
Flavour: candisugar, some fruity acidity, mushroomy, chervil, nutty aftertaste.
Palate: pretty good but simple. Slightly harsh. shalloWMeans (160), Independence, Kentucky, USA Apr 25, 2007 Pours with a nice moderate tan, short-lived head. The color is a very deep brown, ruby-like, translucent but bright. The scent is definitely earthy, somewhat pungent but also very malty and sweet. Oh yeah, it tastes amazing. Very distinct, with a somewhat peaty scottish ale taste. lLots of malt, a bit of sweet and a nice rounding nutty complexity. There are just so many flavors its hard to list them all. Overall, a wonderful beer, the brasserie d’Achouffe continues to amaze me. Rvrndmaynard (47), Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, USA Apr 25, 2007 On tap at Mile Square in Hoboken. Dark brown color, sweet and malty. Great beer all around, but i think it is better off the tap than in the bottle. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 19, 2007 Pours a fluffy beige head, dark iced tea color...smells of yeast and orange peel....nice lacing...slightly sweet , thin body, a bit creamy...nice flavor malty and mild spice...8.5% well disguised
