DCJack (146), Alabama, USA Aug 17, 2006 I don’t review any more, I just cut and paste Pigfoot:
Deep dark murky brown color, small, but simmering, tan head. Aroma: mollasses, nuts, butter, cream, dates, raisins, dark rum, all the rich flavors one can imagine. Thick, full, hot mouthfeel, full body, tingly hops. Super-charged with hops, the flavor keeps on coming, simmers and stews, with a long lasting, rich, satisfying finish! Takes the cake for all brown ales everywhere, past, present, future. Round, delicious, sensuous, and utterly lip smackin’! spydog (74), Tempe, USA Aug 15, 2006 I was disappointed with this beer. Pours a nice mahogany color with a thin, consistent head that left plenty of lacing. Mouthfeel was thin and tasted like vinegar. Slightly sweet and some tartness. This might have been a bad bottle. I will re-explore when in Brussels. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Aug 14, 2006 750ml green bottle. Medium brown pour, head is foamy and large, quite creamy and off white in colour. Dark malts in aroma, roasty with a slight cola note, also traces of iron. Flavour was dark sweet malt with some roasted grains. Mild carbonation and medium body. jzzbassman (838), New Albany, Mississippi, USA Aug 13, 2006 750ml bottle: Poured a lovely mahogany with a lot of lacing from the tan head. Fruity aroma, with a big caramel nose. Flavor was sweet with chocolate, melon, and fig. Silky smooth body that just was really satisfying. jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 12, 2006 Updated: Mar 11, 2007draft.
Very dark, almost black appearance with decent head that stays. Very nice hoppy aroma. The taste is awesome with a lite carbonation and a well balanced body. Slightly sweet with a hint of brown sugar and raisins. Very good on draft. Cheers!
Update: 750ml - still great taste. What I love about this beer is the sweet malty background you get as your drinking it. Outstanding. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Aug 9, 2006 Pours opaque dark brown w/ full semi creamy froth. The aroma is like a nose in a bag of chilled dried fruit. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. Flavors are strong and semi sweet w/ an alcoholic warming. Cherry, raison, apricot, nectarine, slight medicine, oak bark, gravel, brown sugar. A very complex brew. Didn’t open up upon warming. I expected some biscuit/ pancake flavors to come forth but nothing of the sort. Just dried fruit. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Aug 5, 2006 On draught at the Tap House in Norfok, Va. Pours a deep amber-prune into the glass, with an off-white head, mild retention and sticky lacing. The bouquet consists of dark fruits, primarily raisins and plums.... very subtle, but comforting nonetheless. The flavors consist of dark, sweet(er) fruits.... raisins, prunes, plums.... also intermingling are marachino cherries and light alcohol notes. The finish is aromatic, and of sweet dark cherries and a mild astringent alcohol. This is really a great brew, served best slightly above (very) cold and in a thistle or snifter. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Aug 3, 2006 Bottle 750ml. The appearance is mahogany (Dark black/brown) with thick creamy light brown head. The aroma has floral hops, caramel malt, yeast, and fruit. The flavor is malty with toffee and fruit, caramel, sugar with a hint of nuts. The aftertaste has a little chocolate.
