SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Mar 6, 2006 In the bottle at the Red Monk during the 2006 Crescent Moon Beer Bus Trip. Brown in color with a fantastic long lingering chocolate and raisin aroma. This went over so well that the bartender had to say, "Everyone calm down...it’s just beer." Delicious plum and raisin flavor with a thick malty brown blanket. Delightful. TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 4, 2006 Poured a reddish brown amber with a large foamy lighter tan head that laced. Aroma was a bit spicy, a lighter roastiness, dark fruits and yeast. Flavor of the same with a light hint of citrus. FrankJohansen (3329), Sabro, Denmark Mar 4, 2006 Brownish colour with a frothy white head. Aroma of fruit, spices and malt. Sweet taste of malt and fruits. Great beer. winegarner (220), san diego, California, USA Mar 3, 2006 Poured a dark red with a thick, long lasting, off white head. Aroma is of plums and holiday spices. Flavors are also reminiscent of these with the addition of green apple, pear, and cherry. There is also a subtle earthy, herbal hop character present. A little dry for a scotch ale but it makes for a lighter, more warm weather brew. rebelbrewer (125), Lithonia, Georgia, USA Feb 27, 2006 0.3l for $6 and served in an official Mc Chouffe glass at the Brick Store Pub. It looked black and was topped by a white head as it approached the table. Served up in its "official" glass this beer looked like a fine desert. Go here: www.achouffe.be/newen/produits.php find the Mc Chouffe picture. It looked just like that ("picture is worth a thousand words") and was poured from a tap. Good job!
It had a overriding fruity aroma. Not tropical fruits, but dark fruits. Liquid plum! …With some spices. Oh, man! If you like to eat ripe plums you’ll like this. It is creamy and light on the palate as well. I’ve also had this in a 750ml bottle. Not as good in the bottle, but there was nothing left in that bottle either.
jcr (1137), Jasper, Indiana, USA Feb 27, 2006 Appealing translucent brown pour with off-white head. Aroma of orange, plum and sweet malts that follows through in the flavor. Acidic notes in the aftertaste in the form of a slight sourness in addition to some very slight peppery notes. Thin body and lots of fizz. Enjoyed this. Eladerman (53), Newburgh, Indiana, USA Feb 26, 2006 Updated: Feb 18, 2007This is almost as good as Chimay Blue or Grand Reserve. It is one of the best examples of a Belgian Strong ale that there is in the World. rsans (125), Pont-Rouge, Quebec, Canada Feb 26, 2006 750ml bottle. Deep reddish brown colour. Pours a thick and huge fluffy tan head with a lovely lacing. Fruity aroma. Sweet taste, some caramel and malt notes with a dry and fizzy-bitter finish. Perhaps a bit too sweet to my liking since I am not a big fan of scotch ale but from an objective stand-point a very well-made beer.
