SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Feb 24, 2006 Rusty caramel pour with a great, tight forming head that stays the whole glass. Spritzy aroma is mostly light fruits - pear, apple with a slight sourness and funky yeast note as well. The body is light and sweet, with subtle notes of wet wood and earth that blend nicely with the more dominant apple notes. The alcohol is absolutely silent in this from start to finish. damienv10 (108), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 16, 2006 Clear dark ruby with a brownish tint and a small tan head. It has a gentle aroma that smells fruity (ripe cherry & apricot) and floral with a touch of spice, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sharp carbonation on the palate at first. The flavor is woody peaty malt with a muted toasty hazelnut/almond finish. Its almost watery on the finish. Maybe this one’s a bit old. Will try again Dorqui (1353), Brescia, Italy Feb 14, 2006 Updated: Sep 16, 2007Bottled 0,75L at Oberon (Ospitaletto) [ABV 5.0%].
A lot hazy dark brown color. Dense and extremely bubbly one. Much bulky and supporter head, optimal persistence. Elegant aspect. Much rich and spiced scent; notes of humid forest, spices like pepper and marjoram, smoked malt (light). Much racy and prickly taste, enough dense and solid one with a sweet and harmonious final. A lot fruity with main notes of dark grapes and small fruits. Determined but most pleasant alcohol tenor. Without excesses.
porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Feb 10, 2006 (11.2 oz bottle ("best before end ’07") from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/portland/downeast-beverage-co/974.htm target=blank>Downeast Beverage Co.) Pours medium brown with medium biege head. Aroma of yeast, brown sugar and toffee. Not much lacing. Mouthfeel prickly, kind of thin. Tastes moderately sweet, brown sugar-ish, light banana. Definite Belgian characteristics from yeast. Don’t get the Scotch or peat characteristics like I normally think of with a Scotch ale but this was pretty enjoyable anyway. Flavor doesn’t really stand out, perhaps the most distinct characteristic is the prickliness. PetetheMeat (546), Hove, Denmark Jan 31, 2006 Brown, tall head. Sweet aroma with brown sugar. Vanilla, notes of smoke, even oak? More sweetness in the flavour. Very pleasant. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA Jan 30, 2006 Dark brown, tall head, shrinks down quickly.
Zesty, orange peal, leaves a grassy trace long after. Small tornado beads appeared near the end of the glass. Dry and earthy finish. Quite splendid. Dark amber colour with a medium tan head, rapidly diminishing. The appearance wasn’t as good as i expected but aroma and flavour were much greater. Not much carbonation. Aroma is malty, spicy and yeasty, with caramel notes in the middle. Flavour of roasted malt and wood. Medium-light body. I must confess i was expecting a little more of this one. Nevertheless, a very good beer.
