CharlesDarwin (1821), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Dec 20, 2005 Updated: Oct 28, 2009Distant cirrus clouds scrape the landscape of this ruby amber pour, topped copiously with an airy soap of banana. Aroma is distinctly belgian with wild fruit and a faint gentle run of diacetyl and fusels. Fresh grain heads and moist nut bread. Flavor is subtle and gentle, with complex muddled fruit running down a stream of light cream and cranberries. Some vague vinous qualities and estery runs of banana and figs, that follow a general thin bodiedness. A hint of alcohol thickens and warms. Malt doesn’t bludgeon you into submission, almost sessionable. A hint of gray salt and some waterness slides the palate downward. Interesting belgian take, but lacks some body and fullness. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Dec 18, 2005 Pours a deep brown with a thick white head that lasts and lasts. A very nice sweet beer with brown sugar and caramel along with some alcohol burn and enough hops to give it some bite. I was very happy to get the opportunity to try this one. pivo (2535), Germany Dec 18, 2005 This is one that you’ve had and always assumed rated, so it was a surprise to have not found it on my list. Toffee nose, slightly woody, but mostly yeast - very sweet aromas. Mahogany color, foamy beige head. Caramelly malt base, vanilla, maple syrup, dainty dry end. Some cinnamon spiciness. Fully body, smooth and real classy. Fabulous. jrob21 (1249), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 17, 2005 Amber color with a big beige head. Tastes sweet and malty. Well carbonated. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 14, 2005 Split a big bottle this with my wife at Volo. Dark brown, big beige head - looks nice in appropriate glassware. Aroma of spicy malt, but it is subtle. Mouthfeel is medium but well carbonated. Taste featured more spicy malt, but with more a dark fruit and floral characteristic than what I was expecting. Alcohol is there. A really wonderful beer. turg (156), Quebec, Canada Dec 11, 2005 Bottle 750ml. Appearance: Amber colour with a nice beige head. Aroma: sweet and fruity.
