Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Nov 1, 2005 What a nice, warming brew. Although I’m a confirmed hophead, I enjoy a good Scotch ale, and this is an interesting Belgian twist on the style. It’s got a clear, deep nutty brown body with a tall, rocky beige head. The aroma is a rich, slightly smokey, somewhat nutty malt, a modestly caramel sweet malt. The body is thick and syrupy, delivering a sweet, smokey malt flavor that slides down way too easily. The finish is sweet and warm, although the sturdy abv doesn’t truly makes its presence known until it’s well into your system. Very, very nice.

altkencru (143), USA Nov 1, 2005 One of my favorite dubbels. Pours with a nice thick head and tastes great. Ages nicely too. Nekronos (2243), Xalapa, Mexico Oct 29, 2005 Updated: Feb 8, 2006NIce beer, but a little too strong and without sense soetimes, can be described as a good beer but it was too alcoholic. The foam is good, of course. blankboy (3157), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 28, 2005 Bottle. Pours a hazy ruby-brown with a large light-brown head. Fairly mild aroma of malt, pepper, alcohol, sugar and dark fruit. Flavour follows the aroma. Looks carbonated but doesn’t taste it -- it tasted flat and watery. Dissapointing, I much preferred La Chouffe -- maybe a bad bottle? SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA Oct 28, 2005 750 ml bottle purchased from BevMo. Pours walnut color with a creamy beige head that lasts well. Interesting this combination of Scotch and Belgian styles. Aroma is quite sweet, lots of dark fruits, hints of maple, molasses and spicy yeastiness. Flavor is also sweet, dark fruity malts, molasses, tea, lavendar and floral notes. Medium to full body, smooth on the tongue with gentle carbonation. Quite nice. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany Oct 24, 2005 On tap at Les 3 Forquets, Gouvy - Another beer I can’t believe I hadn*t had it before: Nice eggshell white head on the dark mahagony colored brw. Lot’s of malt in the nose also chocolate and alcohol. Woody, caramel and toffee in the taste - medium sweet but pleasant. Cloves finsh. Nice. Sten (288), Westerlo, Belgium Oct 22, 2005 A black-reddish appearance with a light brown head. The aroma is sweet and fruity. The taste sweet and a bit yeasty. Nothing special. (Bottle 75cl)
